This cocktail is my take on the Fitzgerald cocktail. The addition of bianco vermouth and an egg white add a softness as well as a layer of complexity to this drink that is absolutely amazing. Where the Fitzgerald is a clean and straightforward cocktail the Zelda provides interesting minutia that you are still discovering on the second or third round. It also does this while being incredibly light and drinkable and without overwhelming the palate.
The Fitzgerald was named for the great writer F. Scott Fitzgerald so I decided to name this libation for Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald, his wife and longtime muse. Zelda was dubbed the original flapper girl in the 1920’s and became infamous for her hosting and attending of parties. Later diagnosed with schizophrenia she lived a fascinating life. I highly recommend the book “Save Me the Waltz” or the show Z: The Beginning of Everything if you are interested in finding out more.
